Breathe-Implant surgery

Breathe-Implant surgery has been applied since 2003 and the surgical technique has constantly improved since then. Breathe-Implant is a proven implant that permanently facilitates nasal breathing.

During closed (hidden) or open (small incisions on the columella) surgery, the fine titanium implant "Breathe-Implant" will be inserted into the columella and placed on the triangular cartilage of the nose. This allows to widen and stabilize slightly the narrowest part of the nose.

This procedure takes 30-60 minutes. It is not unusual to carry out further surgical steps in the nose, which can be combined without difficulty, such as in particular straightening of the nasal septum and volume reduction of the lower turbinates. These steps can also be combined with aesthetic corrections. This procedure is practically painless after the operation. During the first three days, the nose should be cooled on a regular basis to prevent severe swelling. After two weeks, the patient is fit for work again. It takes the nose 2-3 months to swell down completely. The implant is not perceptible to the patient.

Excellent results

The results obtained for patients are excellent. A study conducted at the beginning of the use of Breathe-Implant with a population of n=67 patients showed a patient satisfaction of 90 % over an observation period of 5 years (2003-2008). Alternative procedures such as the insertion of cartilage implants often fail to stabilize the nasal valve safely and permanently. Many patients therefore complain about recurring deterioration of their nasal breathing after only a few months, whereas Breathe-Implant provides a permanent solution.

90 % (n=67) of the patients show improvement and would recommend the implant to others.

In 98.5% of patients, Breathe-Implant works as intended and without complications.

In the meantime, Breathe-Implant surgery has been continuously improved with increasing experience and is being practised successfully all over the world. Since 2003 until today (situation as of 2021), the inventor, Prof. Dr. med. à Wengen, alone has implanted Breathe-Implant in more than 1380 patients. For 98.5% of these patients, Breathe-Implant works as intended and without complications. This speaks for the excellent long-term results and the long-term stability of this implant.
